10 Spring Break Travel Tips for a Stress-Free Vacation


Now that spring has arrived, many people are looking forward to a warm weather vacation to help shake off the winter blues.  This is a great time of year to travel, so we put together our best tips to help you and your family get the most out of your spring break.

Pack for the climate.  Overpacking is a common travel mistake, especially when you’re excited to break out your summer wardrobe. You’ll make your trip simpler and easier by limiting the clothes you bring.

Purchase tickets in advance. The busy spring travel season means that many sights and attractions will be packed with other tourists.  Take the stress out of your trip by securing reservations before you leave.

Travel on off-days when you can.  Airfare and traffic both tend to increase during your local spring break week so try to leave a few days before or a few days after if possible.  Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be the cheapest days to fly.

Plan for emergencies. The last thing you want during your vacation is to find yourself with a medical emergency and not know what to do. It’s a good idea to take some time to locate nearby pharmacies and hospitals before you leave, just in case you need them.

Look for complimentary breakfastsand other freebies, such as evening hors d’oeuvres.  These can be a real money-saver, especially if you’re traveling with children.

Maintain your family’s routine You’re on vacation, so it’s ok to sleep in and stay up a little later than you would at home. But it’s also a good idea to reinstate your usual bedtime a couple days before you return to help ease the transition back.

Unplug.  One of the best parts of vacation is the opportunity to turn off your phone and step away from email and social media.  Take advantage of this time to experience your surroundings and connect with loved ones.

Try something new.  We associate spring break with wild parties but you can preserve this spirit in a healthier (and safer) way by stepping outside your comfort zone.  Tap into your adventurous side by looking for activities and experiences you’ve never had before.

Leave room for the unexpected.  Too often, we overplan our vacations by trying to squeeze in as many activities as possible.  Consider what you’d like to do while you’re away but allow for changes in your itinerary as others  arise.

Take time to relax!  Spring break is also the perfect time to unwind, lounge and simply enjoy doing nothing.  Don’t forget to leave some empty time in your plans so you can relax and recharge on your vacation.
